BARTABAS AND HIS HORSE CARAVAGE
LEVER DE SOLEIL (SUNRISE)
EVENT UNFORTUNATELY FAILS BECAUSE OF DISEASE
“Théâtre équestre” also known as “riding theater”, “horse theater” or even “horse circus”, represents a new kind of stage art. It was invented by Bartabas, who was born Clément Marty in the Parisian suburb of Courbevoie in 1957. When he was 19, Bartabas founded a street theater which gradually introduced elements of the circus to the world of Commedia dell’Arte, including more and more animals, and finally horses. His theater is an all-embracing art form (without words) which explores the relationship between people and horses in equestrian vaulting, dressage and more choreographed interludes, featuring costumes and musicians from other countries. In his best work, Bartabas successfully creates “images of controlled urgency”.
Following guest stints with his famous group "Théâtre Zingaro" in New York, Japan, Moscow, Hong Kong and many other locations, Bartabas is coming to the International Dance Festival NRW in Wuppertal alone with his horse Le Caravage. A dialog between man and animal in anticipation of sunrise. An enchantment and a poetic aura that are difficult to escape.
