AURÉLIEN BORY & PHIL SOLTANOFF
CIE 111 - A journey to Absurdistan. Circus, theater, dance
This is a contemporary drama created by a generation of 30-year-olds, whose cultural references come from television, film and video games. “Star Wars or tennis matches...” is how the group describes it in their profile.
Lines appear on the wall. Reflecting bars hang from the ceiling and sway above the stage. They divide the space, but are mostly used for rigorous geometric games. A group of dancers, five male and one female, devise a series of innovative ways to use this space without words and little music. The result is artistic, inventive and witty.
All players in this performance have either attended “Le Lido” or the “Centre National des Arts du Cirque de Châlons-en-Champagne”.
Aurélien Bory studied physics, film studies and building acoustics. The actor and juggler founded Compagnie 111 in Toulouse. Bory is a specialist in architectural acoustics with a passion for geometry.
Producer Phil Soltanoff is Artistic Director of Mad Dog, an experimental theater group in New York.
