YASMEEN GODDER Tel Aviv
“It’s going to be bloody”
A group of one male and three female dancers play some vicious games. Throughout the performance, it seems like the evil can never be extreme enough. It is demonstrated at all levels of cruelty, in painstaking slowness or a powerful staccato. Acts of violence both small and great flare up, only to descend into intimate situations. Harmless children’s games are transformed into battles for power between the sexes, even war.
In her 2006 work, Yasmeen Godder exploits all of the possibilities available to her in the artistic process, both with and against her three dancers. The choreographer forces her dancers “to go beyond borders” – as if each were opening his or her own Pandora’s box.
Yasmeen Godder was born in Jerusalem in 1973 and studied dance at New York University. She returned to Israel in 1999. She regularly presents her work at the Suzanne Dellal Center for Dance in Tel Aviv and on international tours. She recently opened the “Yasmeen Godder Studio” in Jaffa.
