SAWAMI FUKUOKA / EMIO GRECO | PC    Amsterdam

Dancer Sawami Fukuoka appears on stage – but she’s not alone. A figure wrapped in black from head to toe stands quietly to the side, nearly hidden, observing the dancer’s moves and archery. Suddenly the voyeur enters the scene and stands behind the dancer as her silhouette. He moves like a shadow, simultaneously performing all of the movements of his partner. He follows and accompanies the dancer, sometimes repeating movements, and even fights with her. He is her double, dancer partner and lover in one, both familiar and dangerous. This existential dance (performed to Beethoven’s fateful music) explores the tension between love, lust, (female) sexuality and violence.

Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten have worked together in Amsterdam since 1996. They have developed 11 productions with their dance company EG | PC. They offer workshops, lectures and discussions in their “Academia Mobile”. Over the last few years, Greco and Scholten have done more theater, film and opera work.
