THIERRY DE MEY
A piece for the “conductor soloist”. New motion-sensitive technology allows movement to trigger sound. The conductor/soloist can make sounds and even entire musical sequences by simply moving his hand. “Light Music” attempts to smooth the break between dance and the movement that produces the sound. It plays with the duality of motion. The light on the stage causes the hands to appear as a projection on the screen, giving them a different form. The entire production seems to float in its brilliant lightness. The performance is just as fascinating and sophisticated as the music. The computer is the only instrument.
Composer and filmmaker Thierry de Mey was born in 1956. His rhythmic compositions bring new life to the often hermetic and academic world of new music. He has been Artistic Director of the “Charleroi” dance theater since 2005.
Jean Geoffroy, awarded first prize for drums at the Paris Conservatory in 1985, was solo timpanist for the Paris “Ensemble Orchestral“ from 1985 to 2000. He then devoted his creative energy to contemporary music. Many composers have written pieces for him and his drum. This passionate teacher has written a number of books about his instrument.
