A cabinet of curiosities is hidden away beneath the title Heimatlieder: a vast reservoir of melodic material that has accompanied Germany's history throughout various periods, flattering or challenging it. A variety of pieces and snippets that you can't escape. Jingles, broadcasters' theme songs, pop hits and marches that have become, in one way or another, the everyday songs of everybody. They are not just sounds, but act as a sort of contemporary historical document that has a lot to tell us about ideologies, tastes, and sensitivities.
The living room and stadium pop hits. Constant companions of our recent history address the transformation via improvised music.
